Summer Soirée Series

Part 1: Creating the Tablescape

When you think of an idyllic tablescape in Sicily, what two words come to mind? I’ll go first: A rich blue that mirrors the color of the Mediterranean Sea and Lemons! Of course I was inspired to create this tablescape because of Williams Sonoma Canada two stunning collections: Sicily and Limone.

My goal for my Summer Soirée was to transport my guests to an Italian Courtyard, with a 360 degree vision of rich blue and lemons. And let’s be perfectly honest, I didn’t need to work too hard to create it with the Sicily and Limone collections but there was one piece I was certain I wanted to create: a lemon centerpiece worthy of Sicily itself! It’s actually incredibly easy to do and will last for up to 2 weeks if you keep it out of the sun and place it in the fridge on hot days or whenever possible. Since I used skewers and a charger plate, it makes transport incredibly easy and you don’t need to worry about it toppling over like a traditional lemon pyramid!

How to Assemble the Lemon Arrangement:

1.Organize the wooden skewers and cut any down to the appropriate size using heavy duty scissors or shears. There will be a total of 17 skewers needed. Seven skewers can remain 16 inches. Cut six skewers down to 12 inches and four skewers down to 8 inches, and set aside.

2. Using a metal skewer, puncture the lemon to create a hole for the wooden skewer to go through. Repeat for all lemons except for the top five, which do not require skewers.

3. Create the lemon skewers: slide the lemon (nice side facing out) all the way down the skewer until it reaches one end and then place another lemon on the other end. Repeat for all the skewers.

4. To the top of the ceramic planter, add a charger plate. Start by arranging each skewer, alternating the direction with each addition. Repeat for all three layers. For the top layer, carefully balance the last five lemons on top of the pyramid.

5. Next, add greens to fill in any holes. To keep this fresh for as long as possible, keep out of direct sunlight and when possible, place the entire charger plate with the arrangement into the fridge.

6. And there you have it! Set the table with the Williams Sonoma Sicily Collection to pull it all together!
